Job Description:

Smart Codes is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Copywriter Graduate Trainee/Intern to join our team. This internship program offers an exciting opportunity for recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in bilingual copywriting and content creation within a dynamic advertising agency environment. The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced creative team to support client projects and contribute to the development of engaging and persuasive copy for various digital marketing campaigns and initiatives in both English and Kiswahili.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the creative team to develop compelling and effective copy for digital marketing campaigns, advertisements, social media posts, blog articles, website content, and other promotional materials in both English and Kiswahili.
  2. Assist in brainstorming sessions and creative workshops to generate innovative ideas and concepts for messaging, themes, and campaign narratives that resonate with target audiences.
  3. Conduct research and gather insights to understand client industries, target demographics, market trends, and competitor activities, informing content strategy and messaging approaches.
  4. Write clear, concise, and persuasive copy in both English and Kiswahili that communicates key messages, captures audience attention, and drives desired actions, while maintaining brand voice and tone in each language.
  5. Adapt writing style and tone to suit different channels, platforms, and target audiences, ensuring consistency and relevance across all communication touchpoints in both languages.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including account management, design, and digital marketing to ensure alignment and integration of messaging and content with overall project objectives.
  7. Participate in client meetings, presentations, and reviews, presenting copy concepts and ideas, and incorporating client feedback and revisions as needed.
  8. Assist in proofreading and editing copy for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and adherence to brand guidelines, ensuring quality and consistency in both English and Kiswahili written content.
  9. Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in copywriting and digital marketing, and apply new knowledge and skills to enhance content development in both languages.
  10. Demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, and a willingness to learn and grow within the organization.


  1. Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  2. Strong writing skills in both English and Kiswahili, with the ability to craft engaging, persuasive, and error-free copy for various digital platforms and channels in each language.
  3. Passion for storytelling, creativity, and innovation, with a keen understanding of how to communicate ideas effectively through written content in both languages.
  4. Excellent research skills, with the ability to gather and synthesize information from multiple sources to inform content development and messaging strategies.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with digital content management systems (CMS) and social media platforms.
  6. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, creativity, and a proactive approach to learning.
  7. Adaptability and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic agency environment, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  8. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in both English and Kiswahili, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and collaborate effectively with team members.
  9. Prior experience in bilingual copywriting, content creation, journalism, or digital marketing is advantageous but not required.
  10. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, with a growth mindset and a willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities.
